We take great pride in being the area's trusted vet for all your pet's health and wellness needs. From routine exams and vaccinations to surgery and treatment for serious illness and injury, we do it all.
Has your pet had a vet check-up within the past year? If not, then now is a great time to schedule one with our compassionate and knowledgeable veterinary team!
One of the most common questions we get regarding vet check-ups is, "Why do I need to bring my pet in for a check-up if he/she is perfectly healthy?" While we understand that bringing your pet into our office isn't always the easiest thing to work into your busy schedule (especially if you have a pet who gets anxious in the car or at the vet's office), we assure you that your pet's health and wellness will benefit greatly from these regular appointments.
Even if your pet appears to be perfectly healthy, bringing your pet in to see us at least once a year allows us to perform a thorough evaluation of your pet's health. We may uncover signs of underlying medical problems that would otherwise not be noticeable for many months or even years. Yet, by that time, the medical issue could be more progressed and far more difficult to treat or manage successfully. With regular exams, we can have a better chance of diagnosing medical issues early on, which drastically improves the chances for successful treatment and a long, healthy life for your pet. And of course, even when your pet comes back from an exam with a clean bill of health, this only gives you greater peace of mind as a pet owner.
Furthermore, seeing our vet for a regular exam gives you the opportunity to speak with our vet and vet techs, as well as bring up any questions or concerns you may have about your pet's health. Whether you simply want a recommendation on a nutritional plan for your pet or guidance regarding your pet's behaviour, these check-ups are a great opportunity for you as a pet owner to become more informed.
Regular vet exams also allow our team to make sure your pet is up-to-date on all vaccinations for added protection. Many vaccines need to be given once a year, so we can take care of these at the same time you come in for your pet's exam. Keep in mind that many boarding facilities, groomers, and even dog parks require you to provide proof of up-to-date vaccinations for your pet, so you don't want to let these lapse.
We can also make recommendations for your pet's flea, tick, and parasite prevention medication when you come in for an exam. Many of these require a prescription from our vet, so we can take care of this while you're here.
These are just a few of many reasons to bring your pet in for a regular wellness exam. How often should you do this? Opinions in the veterinary world vary, but for most pets with no history of medical issues, an annual check-up should be just fine. For older pets, puppies/kittens, or pets with known medical issues, we may instead recommend a twice-annual exam instead.
